Kim Raine PhD, RD
PROFILE: Dr. Raine studies health promotion from a socio-environmental perspective. Her research interests focus on the use of qualitative and participatory approaches to understanding the social and cultural determinants of inequities, or social justice issues, in health. Dr. Raine has a particular interest in studying gender, socio-economic status and culture as collective health determinants. The knowledge of health determinants generated through this research is used to inform health promotion strategies based in social change.
Dr. Raine is Principal Investigator of a program of research entitled Promoting Optimal Weights through Ecological Research (POWER), funded through a New Emerging Team grant from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research-Institute of Nutrition, Metabolism, and Diabetes and the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada. She is also Co-principal Investigator of Healthy Alberta Communities, a community-based obesity and chronic disease prevention project.
Kim Raine is an AHFMR Senior Scholar and a CIHR/HSFC Applied Public Health Chair
