Michael Brooker BA (Hons), MSocSc

MEMBER SINCE: Dec 12, 2005
LAST UPDATED: Dec 12, 2008

PROFILE: Michael Brooker is an instructor at Vanier College in Montreal. He teaches obese and overweight people to lose weight by changing the way they think. He does this by providing them with affirmations and new models. The underlying theory is that subjects are awake when they overeat relative to their energy requirements. Therefore, a crucial variable is what and how they are thinking when they are eating.
The course is 17 sessions of two hours
(one hour when given privately). In order to change and monitor their thinking, students complete over 20 written exercises. The training is detailed in 180 page workbook and described in "Anthropological Aspects of Changing Beliefs Among the Obese", Practicing Anthropology, vol.22 No.2 summer 2000
