Lindsay E Robinson PhD

Lindsay E Robinson

PROFILE: Dr. Lindsay Robinson is an Assistant Professor with the Department of Human Health and Nutritional Sciences at the University of Guelph. Dr. Robinson links her current research interests in nutrition and metabolism to two key events that occurred during her fourth year of undergraduate studies at Acadia University. The first was taking an elective introductory nutrition course and the second was a laboratory-based honours biology research project. These actions revealed her love for both nutritional sciences and research, respectively. Combining these interests led her to the University of Alberta where she completed her Ph.D. focused on nutrition, immunology, and cancer. Following this, Dr. Robinson came to the University of Guelph where she held an NSERC Postdoctoral Fellowship to study carbohydrate metabolism in insulin resistant states, such as obesity and diabetes. It was this work that led to her current research program focused on understanding the roles and regulation of cytokines secreted from adipose tissue (‘adipokines’) in obesity-related chronic diseases. She's particularly interested in diet and exercise regulation of adipokines and their roles in communication among key metabolic tissues in health and chronic diseases.
Dr. Robinson's laboratory is currently funded by the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) of Canada, the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture and Food (OMAF) through the Food@Guelph Initiative and the Canadian Foundation for Innovation (CFI). She is also part of a collaborative research team funded by the OMAF Food Research Program.
