PROFILE: Dr. Keith Sharkey is a Professor in the Department of Physiology & Biophysics at the University of Calgary.

His laboratory studies the nervous system of the gastrointestinal tract in health and disease. The major focus is the role of nerves in intestinal inflammation. This research is applicable to the important conditions of Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis. They're other focuses include the intrinsic primary afferent neurons and enteroendocrine cells in inflammatory bowel disease, the role of cannabinoids in the control of emesis, and the neurobiology of obesity.
