Rickey Yada BSc Agr, MSc, PhD

PROFILE: Dr. Rickey Yada was awarded a doctorate from the Department of Food Science at the University of British Columbia in 1984. He has been a faculty member at Guelph since that time, has served as Chair of the Department of Food Science, and as the Assistant Vice President Research, Agri-Food Programs. He is a Professor in the Department of Food Science and a Canada Research Chair in Food Protein Structure. Recently, he was appointed as the Scientific Director of the Advanced Foods and Materials Network in 2003 which is part of the Networks of Centres of Excellence Program. His primary research focus is on structure-function relations of food-related proteins. He has participated on numerous Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) of Canada research awards panels and committees, was one of the Life Science Group Chairs, a member of the Committee on Research Grants, and serves as chair of the Program Evaluation Committee as well as the Global Partnerships Program. He has also served on several Canada Foundation for Innovation Panels (presently a member of the New Opportunities Fund Adjudication Panel). He was a member of the Canadian Royal Society Expert Panel on the Future of Food Biotechnology. He was editor-in-chief of Food Research International Journal from 1992 to 1998, is now the North American Editor for Trends in Food Science and Technology, and is on the Food Science and Technology editorial advisory board for CRC Press. He is the author of approximately 130 refereed journal publications and several book chapters.
