PROFILE: I am currently a graduate student at Western University. I am working towards my Masters through the Health and Rehabilitation Sciences department and conducting research on the effectiveness of parent-focused interventions on paediatric overweight and obesity.

Prior to returning to graduate school, I worked for the City of Burlington and Town of Oakville as youth programs instructor and community outreach advisor. Focusing on physical activity and nutritional literacy has always been of personal interest.

Growing-up overweight myself, obesity has always been a pressing issue. It was not until university that I decided to take charge of my weight and make education/ advocacy a priority.

I plan to continue my pursuit of education/research with a focus on childhood overweight and obesity. With approximately 32% of school-aged children and youth in Canada overweight or obese, childhood obesity has reached epidemic proportions and poses a serious public health concern.

I ultimately hope to educate and empower individuals to make healthy evidence-based life choices pertaining to overweight and obesity. The Canadian Obesity Network is an excellent resource made up of like-minded individuals focusing on prevention, treatment, and policy. I would be thrilled to be a part of this network.
