Jean-Patrice Baillargeon MD, MSc
PROFILE: Jean-Patrice Baillargeon, MD, MSc is currently assistant professor at the Université de Sherbrooke and an active member of the obesity multidisciplinary team of the Clinical research center of the Centre hospitalier universitaire de Sherbrooke. He obtained a Master’s in Clinical research and Biostatistics and is chercheur-boursier-clinicien of the FRSQ. He currently holds funding from CIHR and FRSQ. His primary area of expertise includes obesity, health system improvement and the implication of obesity and insulin action in the pathophysiology of the polycystic ovary syndrome. His major contributions include characterization of increased insulin action contributing to the hyperandrogenemia of polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) and the finding of altered D-chiro-inositol metabolism in women with PCOS who are obese, which was correlated with insulin resistance.
Dr. Baillargeon is co-principal investigator on a 3-year multi-disciplinary Partnership for Health System Improvement CIHR-FRSQ funded project which aims to develop and implement an innovative, integrated, interdisciplinary obesity care management system involving both primary and secondary health care professionals. Dr. Baillargeon will contribute to the obesity network in the area of improved delivery of obesity care, insulin resistance, metabolic syndrome, insulin action and the methodologies related to in vivo physiologic studies. He is also member of the Council of the Canadian Society of Endocrinology and Metabolism (CSEM) and could serve as a contact with this professional organization.
