PROFILE: I have a bachelor's degree in nutrition with a minor in physical activity.
My professional career began in research with a provincial study called REAL Kids Alberta (Raising healthy Eating and Active Living Kids). I travelled the province of Alberta gathering lifestyle, demographic, and anthropometric information from elementary aged children, their parents, and schools, and talking to them about health and wellness.
I have also been employed with the Aboriginal and Global Health Research Group with the University of Alberta, with a focus on a program called WHY ACT NOW (Wellness and Health in Youth, Aboriginal Communities in Transition NOW). Collecting lifestyle, demographic, and anthropometric information from urban Aboriginal and multi-ethnic youth, interpreting the data and developing educational resources to be presented as a lifestyle intervention in high schools.
Currently working as the Outreach Coordinator for the Pediatric Centre for Weight and Health Stollery, a specialty care clinic that provides pediatric weight management to children and families who have been referred to our program. (Ages 2-17 and >85th percentile for age and gender corrected BMI)
