PROFILE: Brubaker, Patricia L, PhD, is Professor at the University of Toronto , holds a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Vascular and Metabolic Biology and is Associate Chair of the Department of Physiology. She is also a member of the Metabolism Panel at the CIHR and of the Editorial Board of Endocrinology, and served as an innaugural member of the CIHR Institute of Nutrition, Metabolism and Diabetes Advisory Board for 5 years. She currently holds funding from CIHR and the CDA. Her primary area of expertise includes intestinal hormones, intestinal function, diabetes and obesity, and she teaches extensively at the University of Toronto on the topic of body weight regulation. Major scientific contributions include establishment of the mechanisms underlying GLP-1 and GLP-2 secretion and their biological activities, for which she was awarded the CDA Young Scientist Award in 1998. Dr. Brubaker will contribute to the Canadian Obesity Network in the areas of conferences, colloquia, workshops, summer workshops, seminar series; training activities, training courses such as internships or apprenticeships; student incentives for collaboration with receptors; and exchange of scientific results, ideas and innovation amongst the existing user community.
