Giving Tuesday: Help the Canadian Obesity Network help Canadians living with obesity.
The photo above is of a note the Canadian Obesity Network recently received. Enclosed with it was a small donation to support the network's programs. Each month, a few Canadians send us letters and emails, and many include small contributions.
Imagine what we could achieve if everyone affected by obesity – whether that's you, a loved one, coworker, friend, client or patient – donated just $10 to help us do what we do. We could end weight bias as we know it. We could ensure that people who need treatment actually get it. We could train and certify more health professionals, fund more research, and share more stories about living with obesity.
We have big plans for 2018 and beyond. We will be training patients to become advocates, while developing tools to help patients do self-advocacy. We are creating a new website in English and French that can help Canadians find information about obesity, including a database of obesity centres where they can find evidence-based care.
If you or someone in your life has been affected by obesity, please consider making a donation to the Canadian Obesity Network. We're Canada's only nonprofit working to advance anti-discrimination, prevention and treatment efforts on behalf of the 1 in 4 adults and 1 in 10 children living with obesity. The network receives limited government funding, with our main sources of funding being revenues from professional education activities, corporate unrestricted grants or sponsorships, and personal donations. All contributions will receive a tax receipt, and 100% goes toward supporting network programs.
With your help, we can end the stigma and ensure that people with obesity gain access to health resources, equitable treatment and the same quality of life as their fellow Canadians.
